Email auto-ingest

Feed your newsletter into the ledger automatically so you don’t paste every issue. Alert-only — no orders.

All guides Getting started

What it does / doesn’t do

It doesIt doesn’t
Pull new or unread mail in one folder on each check Read your whole inbox history — it starts from where you connect and skips already-seen mail
Import the message text into your claim ledger Know which sender is your newsletter — you tell it where to look
Use IMAP with a mail server address (e.g. imap.gmail.com) Treat the mail server as your email address — the server is a hostname, not your inbox
Keep pulling on every Keep-checking loop Place orders, reply to email, or touch messages outside the folder you set

Point it at a clean mailbox or a filtered label — not your everyday personal inbox. Because GuruWatcher doesn’t know which messages are your newsletter, it will import everything new/unread in the folder you choose.

Plan where the newsletter lives

Pick one of these so the folder contains only (or mostly) newsletter issues:

Option A — a dedicated mailbox

A separate email account used only for newsletters. Forward the newsletter there, or subscribe to it with that address. The whole mailbox is newsletter-only, so the folder is simply INBOX.

Option B — Gmail filter to a label

Keep using your normal Gmail, but create a filter that matches the newsletter sender and applies a label (for example Newsletters or Macro Charts). Then set the folder field to that exact label name.

Get a Gmail App password

Gmail does not accept your normal password over IMAP. Use an App password — a 16-character password generated for one app:

  1. Go to Google Account → Security.
  2. Turn on 2-Step Verification (required for App passwords).
  3. Open App passwords.
  4. Create one for Mail (or “Other” named “GuruWatcher”) and copy the 16-character password.

This is not your normal password, and it’s different from your email address. If 2-Step Verification is off, Gmail won’t offer App passwords — turn it on first.

Fill the form in the Control Panel

  1. Open the Control Panel — see the Open the Control Panel guide.
  2. Go to Auto-forward → Email auto-ingest.
  3. Click Use Gmail — this fills the mail server with imap.gmail.com.

Mail server ≠ email address. The server field is the hostname your provider publishes for IMAP (imap.gmail.com for Gmail). Your email address goes in the email field, not the server field.

  4. Enter that mailbox’s email address.
  5. Paste the App password.
  6. Set the folder:
    • INBOX if the whole mailbox is newsletter-only (Option A), or
    • the label name if you filtered into one label (Option B).
  7. Click Save.

After saving, start Keep checking. Each loop pulls only the new or unread messages in that folder — not your inbox history.
